Services

Four things I do, from first drawing set to final cost report.

01 · Takeoffs and estimates

Quantity takeoffs and estimates

Measured from the civil drawing set and cross sections, by station, structure or assembly, then priced with your unit rates and production factors or mine.

  • Earthworks: topsoil strip, cut and fill balanced by station, embankment, shrink and swell factors
  • Civil structures and utilities: granular base, asphalt, culverts, pipe and bedding, concrete
  • Scope sheet of inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and RFIs ready to send with the price

02 · Tenders

Bid and tender support

Help getting a complete, compliant submission out the door when the deadline is close.

  • Proposal and bid writing to the owner's format and evaluation criteria
  • Review of bid documents, addenda and unit-price schedules for gaps and risk
  • Subcontractor and supplier quote comparison and levelling

03 · Project controls

Cost tracking and forecasting

The reporting a project needs once it is won, set up so the people running it can keep it current.

  • Job cost tracking, budget versus actual and estimate-at-completion forecasts
  • Subcontractor ticket logs, progress claims and change management
  • Schedule build and updates in ProjectLibre or Microsoft Project

04 · Aggregates

Pit and aggregate operations

Controls for producers and the contractors who buy from them, built from years inside aggregate operations.

  • Pit production reconciliation and per-tonne cost tracking
  • Community Aggregate Payment (CAP) levy reporting and compliance
  • Crushing and hauling estimates, including BC MoTI Blue Book and HETS equipment rates

What you get

Every quantity points back to the drawing it came from.

A takeoff arrives as an Excel workbook, not a PDF. Each line carries the drawing, the station or structure, and the measured quantity, so your estimator can check any line in seconds and swap in their own rates.

The same workbook feeds the scope sheet, so inclusions, exclusions and RFIs are written while the quantities are fresh, not reconstructed on bid day.

How it works

Nothing to manage on your side.

Step 1

Send the set

Drawings, specs, addenda and the bid form, by email or a shared link. A phone call covers what the documents do not.

Step 2

Fixed quote or hourly rate

A fixed fee and delivery date for a bid, or an hourly rate for ongoing controls work, agreed before any work starts. Site visits are arranged when the job calls for one.

Step 3

Delivered in Excel

Takeoff, estimate and scope sheet in one workbook, with a short walkthrough so your estimator can own it.

Step 4

Invoice on delivery

One invoice, net 30. Ongoing project-controls work is billed monthly under a simple master agreement.

About

Run by a project controller, not a sales office.

I am Vern Schwehr. Before starting Schwehr Projects I was a project controller in aggregate and heavy civil operations in British Columbia, where I owned the estimating, cost tracking, job costing and estimate-at-completion forecasting for the business, including project controls and subcontract management on Trans Mountain Expansion Project scopes.

That work means I have sat on the contractor's side of the table: writing the bid, tracking the tickets, explaining the forecast to the owner. The workbooks I deliver are the ones I would want to inherit.

Before construction I spent seven years in enterprise IT, which is why the spreadsheets are built to be checked, reused and handed to the next person rather than rebuilt each bid.
